Rules

General Courtesy Rules:

Parents are always welcome to attend lessons – as a parent myself I would be suspicious of any program that did not allow me to be present. Please remember that when your child is riding they are supposed to be focusing on what the coach is saying. We have a specific lesson for each day that we are teaching, and if the parent is teaching out of the corner it distracts the child from what the coach is saying. This is your chance to just be a parent and watch, enjoy your child having fun, and let me do the job you hired me to do.

You are also welcome in the barn, but please do not wear sandals. Horses are large animals, and if you get a toe stepped on and you have no shoes on, you will end up with a broken toe. If you arrive at the barn with sandals you will be asked to stand outside of the area where horses are present.

Avoid sudden movements and sounds when observing lessons. Horses can be “spooky” animals – they are prey animals that have not lost that flight reaction. Even the quietest lesson horse can still behave like a horse when something unexpected happens.

Please leave your dogs at home. Dogs that are not familiar with horses can cause accidents without even realizing they are causing a problem. The barn has a population of animals for rodent control, coyote control, and horse care – these animals live on the property and roam free. Leashed dogs tend to cause problems when approached by the residents.
